MadTraveler

Woman EntangledI’d like to talk about something that affects me, especially as a traveler.  Though, don’t expect any racy photos, just a bit about life, love, and lovers.

As a traveler, I find myself almost comically alone.  I say that because, though I may meet 10, 20, or even more people every day that I am actively traveling, I am still perpetually alone.  This is why a lover can be so important and have such an impact on a traveler’s life.

They provide a level of comfort almost equal to that of a true companion without most of the drawbacks of a real relationship.  Before I continue, I want to make it very clear that this is different than the fickle notion of a “fuck-buddy” or a one-night-stand.  These encounters are nothing more than a replacement for a right-hand.  A lover is so much more.

A lover can get you through the tough times in your life; a lover can comfort you and put a smile on your face when no one else can; a lover doesn’t necessarily leave before you wake up and, hell, she might even make you breakfast once; a lover’s smile always makes you happy; and, most important, a lover helps you relax and feel an ultimate sense of tranquility before, during, and after what might have been a tornado of an evening the likes of which you may not otherwise indulge.

But, alas, a lover is not and cannot be permanent.  Otherwise she would not be a lover.  Never forget that the lover is not your significant other; she is not your girlfriend and you need to keep it that way.  The lover is no more than a prescription pain killer – it doesn’t cure the source of the problem, it just covers up the problem for that moment and takes you to another world.

This is why the lover cannot be permanent.  She cannot be your girlfriend or all of the remedies that she provides will be gone.  If you see her every day, she will not be able to take you away from that which you experience every day; if you talk to her all the time, she has become something more, something real, quickly nullifying the effect of the lover.

Most important, however, is that you not ever, under any circumstance, fall for your lover; and, if she is great, hell amazing, instead of just good, you may end up falling for her.  But, she is your lover and not your love.  The second that you fall for your lover is the second that the pain that she helped to alleviate becomes a thousand times worse.  She will never love you back and loving a ghost is worse than loving nothing at all.

Here, I’ll show you the easiest way to avoid paying ATM feels while you travel abroad.  This is a great tip because it allows you to feel comfortable using any ATM from a big bank abroad without having to worry about paying $5 or more per transaction.

This is the tip I use to save a lot of money and I hope it can help you too!

Note that you should still try and use big-bank ATM’s to help avoid potential issues with absurd exchange rates.

Know of any other ways to avoid ATM fees while abroad?  Let me know in the comments below!

I’m on my way back to Paris for some more action!  It seems like I just can’t have a ‘normal’ experience there; or, maybe, this is the normal Parisian experience…

I go for a wonderful Parisian type breakfast, not just a croissant and coffee, the best ice cream/gelato that I have ever had, a Parisian dinner party, and craziness at the Eiffel Tower.

Let me know what you think! 🙂

Mostar, Bosnia is famous only for its oddly shaped super steep bridge. This was my first experience with Bosnia and, to be honest, I was terrified of going here. But, thankfully, this damn famous bridge was bringing enough tourists to the city that I thought it would be a good start for venturing into Bosnia, which, as someone who saw the fighting on tv as a child, scared me (it no longer does).

You will see that the city is really beautiful, by day and especially by night. I will also show you some of the food that I had there, which includes a portion that they swore was for only one person but should have been for 4, the big portions of America have nothing on this place! The other thing is a piece of Burek, which you will see more of in my videos from the Balkans.

In addition to this, I will show you remnants form the war, which are literally everywhere!

I also want to mention that I met some amazing people in Bosnia and I never felt any less safe here than I did in many cities in Western Europe.

Walking through the old streets of Bruges, Belgium, avoiding the horses and the clamor of the noisy tourists and old people who have to yell to understand each other, I stumbled upon this courtyard inside of an old convent. The moment that you enter this place, everything goes quiet and you feel as though you are in another world – a better world; a more peaceful and loving world.

It is hard to describe how peaceful and tranquil this place makes you feel; it was like a little piece of heaven in the middle of a busy city.

Late but still here 🙂

This photo is of a bombed-out church that I explored while I was in Bosnia. It’s on top of a giant hill/mountain and from there you could also see old fortifications on the top of each neighboring mountain/giant hill.

This is recent history and we should never forget just how easy it is for seemingly calm and civil nations to devolve into war (think of Ukraine today).

Bled is a wonderful and beautiful jewel in the country of Slovenia.  Come in fall and you will see beautiful colors with a backdrop of the Julian Alps.  Come in summer and you can swim in the lake and do all sorts of outdoors activities in the surrounding country side.  This is definitely somewhere I will visit again!
